Savannah Steel beat Greensboro Groove for third-straight win

    SAVANNAH, Ga. —

The Savannah Steel won their third-straight game Saturday, beating the Greensboro Groove 79-58 at Enmarket Arena and handing Greensboro its seventh consecutive loss.

Savannah controlled the game inside, outscoring Greensboro 42-32 in the paint and holding a 20-3 edge in second-chance points. Olivia Cochran led that effort with 15 points, while Zee Spearman added 13 points off the bench on 5-for-5 shooting.

The Steel’s depth again proved decisive. Savannah’s bench outscored Greensboro’s reserves 36-8, continuing a strong stretch from the second unit.

Que Morrison helped lead Savannah defensively with 11 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive glass, plus a block and a steal as the Steel limited Greensboro’s chances and pushed the tempo in transition.

Greensboro, playing its third game in four days and eighth in 12 days, struggled to generate consistent offense. Jessica Timmons and Sahara Jones scored 18 points apiece, while Ny’Ceara Pryor added 10 points in 39 minutes. The Groove scored 11 points in each of the first two quarters and did not reach 20 points in any quarter.

Greensboro played without star guard Diamond Johnson.

The teams are scheduled to meet again next weekend for a two-game series on Friday, July 3, and Sunday, July 5.
