Nine months after opening in Downtown Atlanta, Azalea Fresh Market says it has served more than 150,000 customers, a milestone city leaders and company officials cite as evidence that demand exists for full-service grocery options in neighborhoods long affected by limited food access.

The market, located in the historic Olympia Building on Peachtree Street, opened through a partnership involving the City of Atlanta, Invest Atlanta, Savi Provisions and the Independent Grocers Alliance. It remains the only full-service grocery store serving downtown residents, office workers and students at Georgia State University.

Mayor Andre Dickens said the store has helped expand access to fresh and affordable food in an area that previously lacked a traditional grocery option. He said the project demonstrates how public-private partnerships can address food-access challenges while supporting neighborhood development.

Buoyed by the downtown store’s performance, Azalea Fresh Market is expanding to southwest Atlanta with a second location under construction at Campbellton Plaza on Campbellton Road. The 16,000-square-foot store is expected to open in fall 2026 and will serve a community that has also faced longstanding barriers to accessing fresh groceries.

According to founder and CEO Paul Nair, the expansion will allow the company to increase purchasing power and improve operational efficiencies while broadening its reach. Invest Atlanta President and CEO Dr. Eloisa Klementich said the Campbellton Road project is expected to serve more than 1,700 residents each month and generate an estimated $2 million in annual economic impact.

Construction on the new store is about 30% complete, with concrete work and underground utility installation finished. Framing, loading dock improvements and exterior renovations are expected in the coming weeks.

Azalea Fresh officials said average daily revenue at the downtown store has increased nearly 20% since opening, reflecting steady growth. The company also reported strong demand for prepared foods, grab-and-go meals and café offerings, which account for nearly one-fifth of sales.

The downtown market has also emphasized partnerships with Georgia-based suppliers, including Westside Community Market, Alon’s Bakery and Arden’s Garden. Nair said the store was designed as a community-focused model that combines access to fresh food with support for local businesses.

Azalea Fresh Market’s Downtown location at 25 Peachtree St. is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
