Julissa Duchatellier on Building a Multifaceted Legacy Through Music, Business, and Service

Julissa Duchatellier refuses to be confined to a single title. As Ms. New York US Nation and Ms. Long Island US Nation, she represents confidence, ambition, and service—but her impact extends far beyond the pageant stage.

An entrepreneur, recording artist, influencer, event host, and community advocate, Duchatellier has built a multifaceted career centered on creativity, visibility, and empowerment. Through her business ventures and community events, she creates opportunities for small-business owners, entrepreneurs, and creators to connect directly with consumers, showcase their work, and expand their reach.

Professionally known as Pretty Juu Music, Duchatellier also channels her Caribbean and urban influences into a genre-blending sound shaped by Konpa, Zouk, Afrobeats, and UK Drill. Whether she is performing, developing brands, hosting pop-up shops, collaborating with businesses, or inspiring young women, she approaches each opportunity with consistency, faith, resilience, and a desire to uplift others.

In this SwagHer Spotlight, Duchatellier discusses embracing her many gifts, creating opportunities rather than waiting for them, using visibility to grow a brand, and building a legacy that encourages women and girls to remain confident in who they are.

Fancy: You’ve built a career that spans entrepreneurship, music, pageantry, and community leadership. What inspired you to pursue multiple passions instead of limiting yourself to one lane?  

Julissa: What inspired me is that I never wanted to limit myself to one lane. Each of my passions—entrepreneurship, music, pageantry, and community work—represents a different part of my purpose. I chose to pursue them all because they work together: building, expressing, growing, and giving back. For me, it’s not about choosing one path; it’s about using all my gifts to make a bigger impact!

Fancy: As the founder of businesses and community events, you’ve created platforms that give entrepreneurs and creators greater visibility. What have you learned about the power of creating opportunities instead of waiting for them? 

Julissa: What I’ve learned is that I’m giving these business owners a platform to showcase their brands/businesses. Through pop-up shops, a host of businesses sell their items and are able to share their gifts with the local communities.

Fancy: You perform as Pretty Juu Music, blending Konpa, Zouk, Afrobeats, and UK Drill influences. How has your culture shaped your sound, and what do you hope people feel when they hear your music? 

Julissa: Growing up with Caribbean and urban influences shaped how I hear rhythm, emotion, and storytelling—so blending Konpa, Zouk, Afrobeats, and UK Drill just feels natural to me. It’s really about representing all parts of who I am.

When people hear my music, I want them to feel energy, confidence, and emotion at the same time. I want them to feel seen, like they can dance, heal, and be empowered all in one record. Holding the titles of Ms. New York US Nation and Ms. Long Island US Nation comes with both visibility and responsibility. 

Fancy: How do you use your platform to inspire confidence and empower others beyond the pageant stage?

Julissa: I use my platform by constantly sharing content and also starting to work with different brands, businesses, and soon non-profit organizations. I also want to inspire the young women watching or who I may come across and show them to always be themselves & to never give up on their hopes and dreams.

Fancy: You’ve collaborated with brands, hosted events, and built a strong presence online. What’s one piece of advice you’d give women entrepreneurs who are trying to increase their visibility and grow their personal brand?

Julissa: I would tell them to never stop posting & sharing their products/services. Visibility is very important! If you’re not posting, nobody will know what products/ services you have to offer.

Fancy: Your bio mentions leading with consistency, faith, resilience, and hard work. Can you share a moment when one of those values helped you overcome a significant challenge? 

Julissa: One moment that really stands out was when I had to step into a season where things were uncertain, and I didn’t have all the support or structure I needed. I leaned heavily on resilience and faith—staying consistent even when I wasn’t seeing immediate results.

Instead of stopping, I kept building, kept showing up, and kept trusting the process. That discipline turned a difficult season into growth, and it reminded me that consistency and faith can carry you through anything.

Fancy: At SwagHer, we celebrate women who are building success on their own terms. As you continue to evolve, what legacy do you hope to create for the next generation of women entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders? 

Julissa: I hope to create a legacy where the young women & little girls growing up know that I am an amazing role model to look up to. Also, to always be themselves no matter what! You’re unique and beautiful just as you are!
