    Key takeaways
    • Theme: They don’t make ’em like they used to. A retro theme celebrating obsolete products and trends.
    • Hint: Think Buggy whips and Betamax, pointing to outdated technologies and products.
    • Clue mechanic: Find any words of four or more letters; every three found, Strands reveals a theme word.
    • Answers: PAGER, ICEBOX, INKWELL, TELEGRAM, TYPEWRITER; spangram OLDFASHIONED.

Here’s your NYT Strands hint for today, plus the spangram and all of today’s Strands answers for puzzle No. 952 on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026.

If you’re into retro items like I am, you’ll really love this Strands theme.

    Hint for today’s Strands puzzle

Today’s Strands theme is “They don’t make ’em like they used to.”

And here’s a hint: Buggy whips and Betamax.

Clue words to unlock in-game hints

Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the puzzle’s theme. If you’re stuck, find any words you can. Every time you find three words of four letters or more, Strands will reveal one of the theme words. These are the words I used to get those hints, but any words of four or more letters that you find will work:

    • GORE, GREET, GRAM, GEAR, LENT, BEET, PAGE, TOLD, SOLD, FADS

    Answers for today’s Strands puzzle

These are the answers that tie into the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find them all, including the spangram, a theme word that reaches from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have all of them (I originally thought there were always eight, but learned that the number can vary), every letter on the board will be used. Here are the nonspangram answers:

    • PAGER, ICEBOX, INKWELL, TELEGRAM, TYPEWRITER

Today’s Strands spangram is OLDFASHIONED. To find it, start with the O that’s three letters to the right on the top row.
