Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update:

    Key takeaways
    • Use everyday moments: ask about school, read together, and listen when your child shares interests or challenges.
    • Check SCCPSS school websites and attend family nights, workshops, and performances to connect with educators.
    • As Dr. Denise Watts emphasizes, families and schools working together build a supportive team for student success.
    • Find one more way to connect: one conversation, event, or shared experience can make a difference.

November is Family Engagement Month and Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is celebrating the important role families play in helping students learn, grow and succeed.

Family engagement doesn’t have to begin with a big event. It happens in everyday moments: asking your child what they learned at school, reading together, reaching out to a teacher, attending a school activity or simply listening when your child talks about something that excites or challenges them. Strong partnerships between families and educators are built through trust, communication and a shared commitment to student success.

Throughout November, SCCPSS schools will offer opportunities for families to connect with educators, learn more about what is happening in their schools and become more involved in their children’s educational experience.

    We encourage families to:

    • Check your school website regularly for upcoming events and activities.
    • Attend family nights, workshops, performances, conferences and other school events.
    • Talk with your child about what they are learning.
    • Stay connected with teachers and school staff.
    • Ask questions, share ideas and let your school know how it can better support your family.

“Creating unlimited possibilities for our students takes all of us working together,” said Dr. Denise Watts, Superintendent of Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. “When schools and families build strong, meaningful partnerships, our students know they have a team of people supporting their success, both at school and at home.”

At SCCPSS, meaningful family engagement is about more than attending an event. It is about building relationships between schools and families that support students throughout the year.

This November, find one more way to connect. One conversation, one event or one shared experience can make a difference.
