While there is indeed a path to victory, the money required to mount the necessary campaign—and to effectively counter the entrenched machine politics that will stop at nothing to deceive voters for personal gain—is not within reach right now. This decision was not made lightly. The recent terror attack on our city has reminded us that while a mayor is critically important, he or she needs leaders in all areas pulling their weight to advance our city. As a State Senator, I remain committed to being a strong fighter for New Orleans in the legislature at a time when our city faces challenges and threats that require a united and effective Orleans delegation.
My family and I are stronger from this process, and I am a better public servant. I have listened to the voices of residents across this city, and their hopes and struggles resonate even deeper with me. Although I will not be a mayoral candidate at this time, I will continue working tirelessly to build a New Orleans where everyone can realize their greatest aspirations.”
