Tomorrow’s Tech, Today: Innovation That Moves Us Forward

    Key takeaways
    • Black Tech Week North will activate cities like Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton to grow local Black tech ecosystems.
    • Partners with Obsidi® get curated branding and hiring opportunities, choosing formats like hackathon, workshop, fireside chat, and attendee control.
    • Obsidi® members access networking with leaders, educational Tech Talks, and a job board to advance Black tech careers.

A National Movement Rooted in Local Impact

The proposed cities for Black Tech Week North are:

    Toronto, ON

With the largest Black population in Canada, combined with the fact that it’s also a major tech hub, Toronto is an obvious choice. Since 2018, Toronto has added almost 100,000 tech jobs, securing its spot as North America’s fourth-largest tech market.

    Montreal, QC

Montreal has a substantial Black community and a strong tech scene. With companies like Facebook AI Research, Microsoft Research, and Google Brain all actively present in Montreal (coupled with its bilingual nature), Montreal is the ideal location for an inclusive tech event.

    Ottawa, ON

As the nation’s capital, Ottawa offers strategic importance and a growing tech scene. Ottawa has a significant Black community, and the Kanata area has developed into a major tech hub where you’ll find companies like Mitel, Ericsson, and Nokia.

    Calgary, AB

Calgary’s rapid tech growth, as well as its increasing diversity and growing Black population, make it a prime location for BFUTR activations.

    Vancouver, BC

Vancouver’s diverse population includes a Black community, and its position as a West Coast tech hub lends itself well to geographical diversity for BFUTR events. As a host to numerous tech companies, Vancouver is also recognized as a significant Canadian tech hub.

    Edmonton, AB

With a significant Black population and a growing tech sector that includes initiatives to increase diversity in tech roles, this commitment to diversity and growth aligns perfectly with BFUTR’s objectives.

Brand Activation That Goes Beyond Optics

Black Tech Week North provides our partners with unique branding and hiring opportunities. In addition to being part of a movement, Black Tech Week North lets companies that partner with Obsidi® showcase who they are and meet the rising stars they’re looking to hire.

By expanding visibility and activation efforts through an Obsidi® partnership, companies get to curate the event so it’s designed to attract professionals with the exact skills, experience, and interests they’re looking to engage.

Partners also get to choose the event format; perhaps they want to host a:

    • Hackathon
    • Mixer
    • Fireside chat
    • Workshop
    • Roundtable
    • Tech Talk

Whatever works best, they are free to choose the format that aligns with what they’re hoping to achieve.

In addition to selecting the format, partners get to choose where to host the event and control who attends and how many people they can accommodate. Some prefer smaller, more exclusive, invite-only gatherings, while others enjoy opening them up to anyone interested in the topic.

For those interested in participating in Black Tech Week North and hosting a city activation or applying to be a speaker, check out our website to learn more.

Be part of our inaugural year, an incredible movement to enhance Black tech futures across Canada and beyond.

    How Obsidi® Members Benefit

Obsidi® is an excellent resource for Black tech professionals. Our platform is the perfect place to meet like-minded individuals, entrepreneurs, presidents, vice presidents, CEOs, and co-founders.

It’s the perfect opportunity to meet movers and shakers and delve into tech-related topics.
