Deacon Walter Henry Barnes, Sr., took his
flight on March 25, 2025, at his home.
Deacon Walter Henry Barnes, Sr., was born on
April 14, 1931, to the late Merritt and Maude Barnes
in Screven County, Georgia.
At an early age, he joined Black Creek Missionary
Baptist Church until 1957, when he accepted the
Lord as his savior. He then joined the Holy Temple
Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the
Americas, serving faithfully until his death. He
held many titles in his faithful journey: he was a
Sunday School superintendent, a deacon, and a
musician. He served as musician and Father of the
Southeast Georgia District.
He was employed at Westinghouse, formally known
as Dupont for thirty-three years.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Annie
Ruth Thompson Barnes on January 7, 1950. To this
union, there were two sons born, the late Roscoe
Barnes and Walter H. Barnes, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Walter
H. Brown, Jr.; three grandchildren, Miss Sonya
Barnes, Maceo Thomas, and Desmond Barnes;
four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a
special niece and nephew, Frankie Barnes Robbins
and Edward Barnes; a daughter and former pastor,
