    • Curated by XperienceSthlm and Afrosvenskarnas Riksorganisation (ASR), the tour explores identity, displacement, and Afro-Swedish heritage.

For close to 20 years, I’ve been working in the travel industry.

Mostly as a travel writer and photographer for several publications, visual storyteller on commercial collaborations, and creative strategist working on various travel influencer campaigns with some amazing destinations around the world.

But I am also an author and novelist penning several books and four novels in which my stunning city Stockholm feels like such a tangible character in itself. After all, I am a travel writer.

According to Travel Weekly, there is a sharp rise in literary tourism. For years, many readers around the world have mentioned how much they would love to experience the city through my characters. See the places they walked through and lived. Eat the foods they did. And see Stockholm in a fresher, more modern light. A city so deeply multifaceted and complex as it is aesthetically breathtaking.

After over a year of planning – from ideation and conceptualizing to scripting and execution – in partnership with XperienceSthlm and Afrosvenskarnas Riksorganisation (ASR), I am beyond thrilled to officially expand literary tourism in Sweden with the official launch of our Stockholm Book Tour Club #StockholmBookTour -> https://xperiencesthlm.com/lola-akinmade-book-tour

Official Inauguration Weekend – October 3-5

For our inauguration, we flew in nine (9) influential voices within the UK publishing and book space scene to be the very first to launch and preview this epic experience.

    Book Influencers + Book Clubs

    Book Journalists

We were welcomed by British Ambassador Samantha Job at The British Residence with a wonderful afternoon tea. They were also given Stockholm Keys of Honour to explore most of the city’s attractions for free and treated to a wonderful lunch hosted by Visit Stockholm at Vau de Ville.

Other partners included The Qave, the first and only Nigerian restaurant in Stockholm. Brassiere Gruppen’s EAST Stureplan which was also an integral part of my experience while writing my books, Visit Sweden for also sponsoring some of the flights alongside my own company, Geotraveler Media, and Visit Stockholm for covering all local transport including Arlanda Express tickets.

This was a dream realized with amazing people who truly believed in it and saw the vision too.

Thank you Visit Sweden, Visit Stockholm, The British Embassy, The Qave, Brasserie Gruppen, East. XperienceSthlm and Afrosvenskarnas Riksorganisation (ASR),

    Official Press Release

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Discover Stockholm Through the Eyes of International Bestselling Author and Travel Writer Lola Akinmade Åkerström

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Book lovers, cultural explorers, and literary circles are invited to embark on a full-day guided tour of Sweden’s capital like never before—through the vivid worlds and unforgettable characters created by internationally acclaimed author and travel writer Lola Akinmade Åkerström.

Curated in partnership with XperienceSthlm and Afrosvenskarnas Riksorganisation (ASR), this immersive literary tour offers a unique lens on Stockholm—where fiction, identity, and place intertwine.

Lola Akinmade Åkerström is a Nigerian-American-Swedish author and travel writer whose work has captivated readers worldwide. Her debut novel, In Every Mirror She’s Black, was a Good Morning America Buzz Pick and crowned the most thought-provoking story by The Independent, while her follow-up, Everything Is Not Enough, NAACP nominated for outstanding fiction, continues her powerful exploration of race, class, and belonging in modern Sweden. Her storytelling—sharp, soulful, and socially attuned—has been translated into multiple languages and is praised for bringing fresh perspectives to Scandinavian literature.

Now, fans of her work can step directly into the settings that inspired her fiction. The full-day tour led by XperienceSthlm guides participants through iconic and lesser-known parts of Stockholm that feature prominently in Akinmade Åkerström’s novels—from the glitzy corridors of corporate Sweden to intimate cultural spaces and neighborhoods, including lunch at an iconic restaurant and the Swedish tradition of fika. Along the way, participants will hear behind-the-scenes stories, discuss themes of identity and displacement, and explore the broader realities her characters reflect.

This one-of-a-kind literary experience is presented by XperienceSthlm, a boutique cultural tourism company specializing in immersive, narrative-driven experiences of Stockholm, and Afrosvenskarnas Riksorganisation (ASR), Sweden’s national organization advocating for Afro-Swedes and promoting greater understanding of Afro-Swedish culture and heritage.

Whether you’re a devoted reader, a literary traveler, or someone curious about contemporary life in Scandinavia, this tour offers a rare opportunity to see Stockholm from a powerful, thought-provoking, and deeply human perspective.

The tour runs every Saturday from 10am – 4pm.
