Do you need a planning guide for Mas Domnik 2026? Mas Domnik is the annual Carnival celebration on the island of Dominica.

In addition to the street parades, the Discover Dominica Authority hosts several events, such as Calypso music shows, carnival competitions, village festivals, and beauty pageants.

Mas Domnik, also known as “the real mas,†is one of the most anticipated events on the island and is a unique blend of African, Indigenous, and French traditions with traditional costume bands like Darkies, Black Devils, BwaBwa (moko jumbies), and masqueraders in elaborate costumes.

These bands chip down the streets of Roseau to the sounds of Soca, Calypso, and Bouyon Music.

If you want to experience the spirit of carnival season in Dominica, here’s everything you need to know about planning Mas Domnik 2026, including where to stay, mas bands, fetes, and things to do.

About Dominica

Dominica (pronounced DAA-MUH-NEE-KUH) is known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean. It is a small island with many mountains, beautiful rainforests, hot springs, waterfalls, and diving sites.

In addition to hosting one of the most unique Caribbean carnivals, it is an excellent destination for ecotourism.

When is Dominica Carnival 2026

Mas Domnik officially begins in mid-January, with the opening of Carnival and the start of fetes and cultural competitions such as the Calypso Monarch at the Stardom tent and the Carnival Queen competitions. The carnival ends with vibrant parades on Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.

The parade of bands dates for Mas Domnik 2026 are Carnival Monday, February 16, 2025, and Carnival Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The carnival concludes with a ceremony called téwé vaval, a burial ritual observed on Ash Wednesday by the Indigenous Kalinago People.

Traveling to Dominica

Dominica has two airports: Douglas-Charles (DOM) and Canefield (DCF). Visitors can fly directly to Dominica via American Airlines from Miami International Airport (MIA) or San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), or connect through other Caribbean hubs such as Barbados (BGI), Trinidad & Tobago (POS), Antigua (ANU), and St. Maarten (SXM).

You can also travel by ferry from nearby islands such as Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Saint Lucia via L’Express des Îles or Val Ferry, departing from Guadeloupe and Martinique. For more accurate information on how to get to Dominica via flight or ferry, click here.

Where to Stay for Dominica Carnival

Dominica has a variety of hotels, cottages, apartments, and guest houses for every budget. The best area to stay during Mas Domnik is in the capital, Roseau, where the Carnival Village is.

Recommended hotels include the Fort Young Hotel, Sutton Place Hotel, the Intercontinental Dominica in Portsmouth, and Jungle Bay Dominica in Soufriere. The interactive map lists hotels and guest houses within your budget.
