Brookhaven City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 28 approved measures to move forward with the Ashford Dunwoody Road multi-use path and storm sewer repair projects.
The city approved a resolution to acquire right of way property for $89,700 to complete the first phase of the Ashford Dunwoody Road path. Additional property was obtained by eminent domain for $8,300. The project will see the construction of a 10-ft. wide path from Oconee Pass to Lake Hearn Drive.
Because of excessive rainfall during Hurricane Helene in September 2024, the city approved $265,500 for repairs to a storm sewer on Byrnwyck Road. Public Works Director Jorge Gomez explained that an emergency point repair is required to stabilize the area and ensure it does not advance further on Byrnwyck Road, or to nearby residential structures.
Finally, the city approved a hiring a utilities coordinator through Lowe Engineers in the amount of $162,000. A memo stated that “due to the significantly increased number of applications and permits issued for work within the City’s right-of-way, including Google Fiber, DeKalb County, and numerous projects by other utilities and private developers,” the public works department is in need of an additional coordinator.
