Georgia Southern wins its third straight, now 5-2

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern defeated James Madison University 28-14 Saturday evening to mark its third straight win to move to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in Sun Belt conference-play.

The Eagles started quarterback J.C. French today after he took a hard hit that sidelined him for the majority of the second half in last week’s emotional comeback win against Marshall.

Georgia Southern came out strong on offense against JMU and jumped out to a 21-0 lead after in the first half. From there, the defense held strong, only allowing seven points leading the team to the 28-14 victory.

French went 24/33 with 215 yards through the air, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. Jalen White helped propel Southern on the ground, he rushed for 134 yards on 14 carries.

The Eagles will have a short week of practice before taking on Old Dominion at 7:00 p.m. next Thursday.
