County approves federal grant plan to serve more than 15,000 residents

More than $8.9 million in federal funding will be directed toward housing and food assistance for Gwinnett County residents. The Board of Commissioners approved submission of the 2026 action plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which outlines how funds from three federal grant programs — the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program and Emergency Solutions Grant — will be spent.

This year’s plan distributes funding across 54 projects, including the construction of more than 90 affordable housing units. Housing and food assistance were identified as priorities through the needs assessment process and community data. The grants are 100% federally funded with no County match required.

New sidewalk and drainage improvements coming to South Rockbridge Road

The County will install new sidewalk along a stretch of South Rockbridge Road from North Deshong Road to north of the DeKalb County line, enhancing residents’ access to Deshong Park and nearby commercial centers. The Board of Commissioners approved a contract with CMC Inc. for construction of a sidewalk along the east side of the corridor, along with curb and gutter and associated drainage improvements. The construction of the project is funded by the 2017 SPLOST Program at a cost of $3.43 million.
