Style Spotlight: Looks, Trends & Fashion Inspiration

Key takeaways
  • Michael biopic trailer amassed 116.2 million views in 24 hours, setting a new record for biopic trailers.
  • Lionsgate recorded its biggest trailer launch in company history with the trailer’s performance.
  • Success mirrors previous music-film hits like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis, suggesting strong box office potential.
  • Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, the film is slated for release April 24, 2026.

Would we expect anything less of a King? The legendary Michael Jackson shattered numerous records in music during his career. For instance, Thriller was the first album to generate seven Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the best-selling album of all time at the time of its release. Additionally, it’s estimated that MJ has sold over 500 million records; set a record for having 13 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 (the most for a male artist); and for being the first artist to have a top-ten single in over five different decades. But now numbers are up yet again; sources confirm that the Michael Biopic Trailer has earned 116.2 Million views in just 24 hours; making it the most viewed biopic trailer in history. This is also Lionsgate’s biggest trailer launch in history.

Of course, everyone knew the numbers would be solid. But these overall views are astronomical. And are most likely a good reflection as well as indicator on how the finished film will perform in the future at the box office.

Music related releases of popular artists are doing well at the theaters. Just seven years ago, the band Queen’s biopic came close to being a billion dollar success. 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody grossed over $910 million worldwide against a production budget of about $52 million. Making it one of the most profitable films of that year and the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time.

Any other examples? Yes. The Elvis biopic from 2022 grossed over $288 million. Furthermore, although not a biopic, Taylor Swift is a musician that recently experienced staggering box office profits.

The opening weekend box office sales for the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film in 2023; earned an estimated $96 million domestically during its opening weekend in October 2023. This opening was a record for a concert film and helped to revive the fall box office of that year.

So then, it’s clear, people love music. And they love a great film based on good music. Therefore, the new Michael biopic stands an excellent chance of being the next big favorite. Therefore, mark those calendars! The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026.
