SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – It was finally time for the first Savannah Steel home game Friday night and in front of a sold out crowd the Steel did not disappoint. From the moment Megan McConnell scored the first Steel home bucket they were off, storming to a 15 point halftime lead before cruising to their first ever win in the Upshot league. The 85-67 win added a win to the “W” column while also getting some revenge against the Greensboro Groove who beat them twice in the opening weekend, but the home crowd made all the difference.

“I mean it’s Savannah,” said Head Coach Coretta Brown. “It’s part of the reason why I decided to come back, and the excitement of the players finally feeling that Savanah is a basketball city and they’ve been waiting, patiently waiting for them since September and I think they felt that tonight and obviously it showed in their play .”

The Steel are back at Enmarket Arena on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. against the Jacksonville Wave.
