Shelly Jean Goodrich-Skipper

Shelley Jean Goodrich-Skipper, age 72, of Kingsland, Georgia, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family, following a valiant fight against liver and kidney disease.

She was born in Southington, CT, and moved to Jones, GA in 1961.  Shelley graduated from Darien High School in 1970. She has lived in Fort Knox, KY, Memphis, TN, Statesboro, GA, Orange Park, FL, Jacksonville Beach, FL, and for the past 30+ years, in Kingsland, GA.  She was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Shelley sold Tupperware for over 40 years and later became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the states of GA, FL and TN.  She graduated in 1985 from Mid America College of Funeral Services in Jeffersonville, IN, where she received her Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Sciences and was elected a member of the Pi Sigma Eta through the Lambda-Kappa chapter of the Fraternity.  She proudly shared that she had been trained in embalming by the same man who embalmed Elvis Presley. Shelley and her husband have owned and operated AA Classic Fencing since 1993.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernly and Janet Goodrich; her sister, Sandra Wallace; her brother, Dennis Goodrich; and her sister-in-law, Vicki Goodrich.

Shelley is survived by her husband of 31 years, Johnny Skipper; her daughter, Signe Arlene McClelland Hartley of Shellman Bluff; grandson, David Arlington Hartley (Helen) of Midway; daughter, Monica Nicole Skipper Spaulding (Shaun) of Brunswick; two great-grandsons, Drake Arlington and Skyler Gene Fox Hartley; two granddaughters, Olyvia and Ella Branch; sister, Sybil Wooten of Savannah; two brothers, Thomas Goodrich of Brunswick; Mark Goodrich (Annette) of Richmond Hill; sister-in-law, Bootie Goodrich of Townsend; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A service to celebrate Shelley’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick, with Pastor Stephen Buchholz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
