The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the December 15, 2024, death of Tony James Ferguson, a 41-year-old McIntosh County native. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. on GA Highway 99 at Palmer Court in Meridian.
George “Big Head” Shawn Humphreys, a 33-year-old resident of Brunswick, Georgia, was apprehended Wednesday afternoon, January 15, 2025, by the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in Jacksonville, Florida. Humphreys has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during certain crimes.
Sheriff Thornell King emphasized the importance of this arrest as the beginning of the legal process, stating, “While this is a significant step forward in seeking justice for Tony Ferguson and his family, we remain mindful that this is only the first step. I’d like to thank the Glynn County Police Department, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office, along with the United States Marshals Service, for their support and collaboration.”
The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division has led the investigation, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service. Deputies from McIntosh County and emergency medical personnel from McIntosh County EMS responded to the initial scene.
“Our thoughts remain with Mr. Ferguson’s family during this difficult time,” added Sheriff King. “We hope this arrest provides a measure of reassurance, knowing that progress is being made in this case.”
