Key takeaways
  • Miles Scott rallied Morehouse with a 22-of-33 performance for 326 passing yards and four touchdowns, earning HBCU Player of the Week.
  • Scott’s clutch 3rd-and-14 touchdown to Maurie Veney with 1:55 left gave Morehouse a decisive 27-20 lead.
  • Defensive play sealed the game: Zack Underwood sacked the QB, forced a fumble recovered by Sean Johnson.
  • Stephen Rowser led all players with a game-high 10 tackles, forced a fumble and recorded two sacks.
  • Morehouse improves to 1-4 and will face Central State University at McPherson Stadium on Oct. 11.

The Morehouse Maroon Tigers rallied to defeat longtime rival Tuskegee Golden Tigers 27-20 for their first win of the season. The win marks the Maroon Tigers’ first win in the Morehouse/Tuskegee Classic since Oct. 9, 2021.

Tuskegee struck early, building a 17-0 lead behind a strong first-half defensive effort and timely offensive plays. However, Morehouse quarterback Miles Scott powered a comeback, finishing 22-of-33 for 326 passing yards and four touchdowns. His performance earned him HBCU Player of the Week honors.

Scott’s biggest throw came late in the fourth quarter when facing a 3rd and 14 at the Tuskegee 14-yard line. Scott found Morehouse tight end Maurie Veney over the middle for a touchdown with 1:55 remaining, giving the Tigers a 27-20 lead.

On the next possession, Tigers linebacker Zack Underwood sacked Tuskegee quarterback Bryson McGrew for a 14-yard loss on 3rd and 14, forcing a fumble that was recovered by linebacker Sean Johnson to seal the win.

Tigers sophomore nickelback Stephen Rowser stood out with a game-high 10 tackles, including seven solo, a forced fumble and leading all players with two sacks.

The win improves the Maroon Tigers’ record to 1-4. The Maroon Tigers will look to build on the victory as they face Central State University on Saturday, Oct. 11. The game will be played at 1 p.m at McPherson Stadium in Wilberforce, Ohio.
