Real Estate News & Market Insights:

A stunning European-inspired estate originally built for and designed by renowned Florida trial attorney Fred Levin has just hit the market in Pensacola, FL, for $4.1 million.

Located on 125 feet of frontage along Bayou Texar, the gated three-bedroom brick mansion dubbed Timeless Tanglewood boasts a “masterfully redefined” 6,498-square-foot interior.

“Fred was very eclectic, fascinated with royalty, and traveled the world, so the home is like walking through a piece of history,” says listing agent Sherlyn Waghalter, of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty. “He was also a well-known attorney who was best known for settling a tobacco case.”

Levin donated the estate to the University of West Florida in 2018 before his passing in 2021.

The university used it for functions and then decided to sell the property, using the funds to build a sports stadium,” Waghalter says. The sellers bought the home from the university.

It last traded hands for $2,925,000 in April 2024.

The elegant mansion’s over-the-top design reflects Levin’s bold courtroom persona. “Museum-quality finishes” include a 20-foot cathedral foyer with a Palladian crystal chandelier, a grand curved staircase, inlaid marble and granite floors, leaded glass windows, and silk wall coverings.

The next buyer will really appreciate finer custom finishes,” she notes. “In addition to the beautiful home, it has water frontage and is very private. It’s so grand that it’s like walking into a museum, but not so intimidating that you can’t live there.”

While both Levin and the sellers have used it as a primary residence, Waghalter says it could also be used as a secondary residence.

In Pensacola, there are a lot of primary residents, so it also has this wonderful sense of community,” she says.

Designed for grand-scale entertaining, the dining salon with a hand-carved Italian marble fireplace and coffered ceiling opens to a spacious terrace.

The residence also features a music room, a stately library, guest accommodations, and a “gentleman’s armory.” The lower-level banquet hall with a full bar was designed as a replica of the one found on the Titanic.

“The gentleman’s armory was once a cigar room that has hand-carved cabinetry that, with the push of a button, opens up to a hidden storage area,” Waghalter shares.

The chef’s kitchen has a professional 12-burner gas range, hammered copper cabinetry, a black walnut island, a stone floor, granite waterfall-edge counters, and a pearled-glass tile backsplash.

There are just so many unique finishes that it is truly one of one,” she says. “You are not going to find any other home quite like this.”

The 700-square-foot primary suite looks like it was designed for royalty with its elegant ceiling, custom crown molding, chandelier, and waterfront terrace.

The Panhandle area is just beautiful, and Pensacola is one of the faster-growing cities in Florida,” she says. “It’s a hidden gem to find a home like this on over an acre of land right on the water. If it were located in South Florida, the price tag would be about $15 million.”
