William Smith, Jr

“Poochie”

December 4, 1972 – November 6, 2025

Mr. William Smith, Jr, was born on December 4, 1972 in Augusta, GA to Betty Smith and the late William Smith, Sr.  He attended the Screven County Schools System.

William was a God fearing man who believed that having faith was important.  Moreover, William carried a bible most days to always keep God close by.  He preached to his family daily on the importance of keeping faith close to your heart and the importance of having strong morals.

William started out his journey to manhood a lot earlier than most.  At the young and impressionable age of only 16, he began providing for his loving mother and taking the title “Man of the House” by getting his first job. This opportunity for independence and self growth triggered something in William.  He began to see that he could not only just provide for his mother, but he could also take on the position of providing for his younger sister.  He would continue providing for the both of them until he shut his eyes.  After working two part time jobs, then a part time and full time job, he began to walk into the footsteps of a man.  After marriage and having children, he knew that with his mindset, wisdom and determination, he was bound for greatness.  Those footsteps would lead him to his last job, Georgia Pacific, where he has faithfully worked for over 20 years.  He was known and loved by his coworkers.  William put his entire foundation on his back in which he never wanted anyone to fail.  No sacrifice was ever too big for him to provide for his family.

William leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and supportive wife of 21 years, Amanda Milton Smith; his children, Aaliyah Smith, Algerlon Pettigrew, Justin Smith and Willow Ward; his loving mother, Betty Oliver Smith; his stepmother, Lillie Smith; five siblings, Bruce (Sandra) Smith, Teffany (Patrick) Austin, Lelia (Richard) Stephens and Stacey Stephens; one grandchild, Amiri Ward; his mother-in-law, Rose Green; his father-in-law, Michael Milton, his brother-in-law, Kenya Green; his uncles, Charles Oliver and Willie Smith; also a host of other beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
