Florida A&M returns to the Orange Blossom Classic today to face the best team in HBCU football, the defending Celebration Bowl champion South Carolina State Bulldogs.
FAMU won the Black national championship in 2023 but has tumbled since coach Willie Simmons left the program. Rattler legend Quinn Gray has taken the reins this season, opening his tenure with a 20-7 win over Division II Albany State last week. The Dark Cloud defense stated its case for being back, with Antonio Camon recording three of the team’s 10 sacks.
They’ll be hard pressed to repeat those numbers against South Carolina State, who enters today’s game off a mindboggling 87-0 demolition of Savannah State. The Bulldogs scored at least two touchdowns in every quarter and put up 31 in the second frame alone to go up 52-0 at halftime. With Mason Pickett-Hicks (103 yards) and Josh Shaw (three TDs) leading the way, the Bulldogs outrushed the Tigers 423-75 with five different players running in scores.
