Tomorrow’s Tech, Today: Innovation That Moves Us Forward

    Key takeaways
    • iFixit and The Verge, with reporter Dominic Preston, confirmed teardown findings on the Trump T1 phone.
    • Lumafield CT scan showed the T1 shares most internal components with the HTC U24 Pro, aside from cosmetic changes.
    • Cosmetic differences include a repositioned camera flash and a circular aluminum speaker grille.
    • The T1 uses a larger 19.35Wh battery limited to 30W charging, while the HTC model supports 60W; physically same size.
    • 'Assembled in the USA' claim masks international sourcing: Taiwanese manufacturer, battery from the Philippines, final assembly in Florida, design mainly in China.

Trump’s T1 Phone is pretty much an exact copy of the HTC U24 Pro, a phone that came out two years ago.

Several sources have confirmed the similarities, including Dominic Preston from The Verge and iFixit, which partnered with NBC News on a teardown of the Trump Phone.

Before cracking open the T1 Phone, iFixit used a Lumafield CT scanner to peek inside and saw that the HTC U24 Pro and the Trump Phone pretty much have the same internals, aside from a few cosmetic changes. These include a repositioned camera flash and the aluminum chassis having a circular speaker grille design instead of a typical grille.

The T1 battery is listed as 19.35Wh, which is larger than the 17.23Wh battery in the HTC U24 Pro, and the T1 battery is limited to 30W charging, while the other one is 60W charging. However, they are physically the same size, according to the report.

The T1 is supposedly ‘Assembled in the USA,’ but none of the parts are actually made in the U.S. The phone itself is from a Taiwanese manufacturer, with a battery from the Philippines. And ‘Assembled in the U.S.’ likely means they get the chassis and the screen already put together, and then a team in Florida puts in the camera modules, speakers, haptic engine, and a pre-designed mainboard.

iFixit and Preston indicate that this phone was likely designed in China, mostly made in China and even had parts sourced from China.
