    🔊

The conversation around plus-size fashion events is evolving, and designer and creative director Jente Carter is helping lead that change. Through her brand, Denim By Jente, Carter has created two experiences designed to do more than showcase clothing—they celebrate confidence, cultivate community, and create opportunities for plus-size women to be seen and supported.

This year, Denim By Jente will host two signature events in the Dallas area: The Plus Size Model Network Experience, taking place July 17–19 in Dallas, and Denim in Wonderland, an immersive fashion experience happening October 25 in DeSoto, Texas.

Together, the events reflect Carter’s larger mission of building spaces where plus-size women no longer have to wait for inclusion—they can create it themselves.

    Building More Than a Network

The Plus Size Model Network Experience is a three-day networking weekend designed specifically for plus-size women looking to build authentic relationships, grow professionally, and connect beyond social media.

Rather than centering the weekend solely around modeling, the experience welcomes women from across the country who are passionate about fashion, entrepreneurship, business, personal development, and community.

The weekend itinerary includes a welcome mixer, a daytime networking experience, a group dinner, a Sunday brunch, professional content-creation opportunities, and intentional conversations designed to spark lasting collaborations.

At just $25, the event offers an accessible opportunity for women to invest in both their personal and professional growth while finding community among women who understand their journey.

“This isn’t just another event,” Carter says. “It’s a space where women can show up exactly as they are, meet new people, collaborate, and leave feeling inspired.”

Bringing Plus-Size Fashion to Center Stage

While the networking weekend focuses on relationships, Denim in Wonderland shines a spotlight on creativity and representation within the fashion industry.

Scheduled for October 25 in DeSoto, Texas, the immersive runway experience celebrates plus-size fashion through custom collections, live entertainment, inspiring speakers, shopping opportunities, and professional runway presentations.

Guests can expect appearances from national plus-size designers, professional runway models, creative entrepreneurs, fashion vendors, content creators, influencers, and media outlets—all united by a shared commitment to showcasing the innovation and artistry within the plus-size fashion community.

General Admission and VIP tickets are currently available, with organizers encouraging guests to purchase early, given previous sold-out events.

Creating Plus-Size Fashion Opportunities Where They Haven’t Always Existed

For Carter, these events were born out of a need she experienced firsthand.

For years, plus-size women have often been treated as an afterthought within the fashion industry. Talented designers, models, and creatives have frequently faced limited visibility and fewer opportunities despite the size and influence of the plus-size market.

Rather than waiting for change, Carter chose to create it.

The Plus Size Model Network Experience was designed to strengthen relationships, build confidence, and create opportunities that extend beyond social media. Denim in Wonderland provides a professional platform where plus-size designers, models, and entrepreneurs receive the same level of celebration and visibility afforded to other sectors of the fashion industry.

Her mission is clear: to create spaces where plus-size women don’t have to ask for a seat at the table because they’re building their own.

    Fashion as Healing

The vision behind these events is deeply personal.

“When I created these events, I wasn’t thinking about putting on another fashion show or another networking event,” Carter shares. “I was thinking about the women who have spent years wondering if they were enough.”

    She understands that feeling intimately.

Having navigated personal setbacks, domestic violence, rebuilding her confidence, and questioning whether her dreams were still possible, Carter says fashion became much more than clothing.

“It became healing. It became purpose.”

That perspective shapes every aspect of both experiences.

More than runway walks or networking sessions, Carter hopes attendees leave with renewed confidence, meaningful friendships, valuable business connections, and the reassurance that they belong in every room they enter.

“What excites me most is seeing women who may have walked in nervous leave standing a little taller because someone believed in them, encouraged them, or gave them an opportunity they didn’t think was possible,” she says.

Representation That Lasts Beyond the Runway

As Denim By Jente continues to expand its impact, the organization is also welcoming sponsors and brand partners committed to empowering women and advancing diversity and inclusion in fashion.

Ultimately, Carter hopes attendees remember more than the clothing they saw on the runway.

“My hope is that when people leave either event, they don’t just remember the fashion—they remember how they felt,” she says. “They leave inspired to chase the dream they’ve been putting off, to bet on themselves, and to understand that confidence isn’t about fitting into someone else’s standards. It’s about embracing who God created you to be.”

If these events accomplish that, they’ll leave behind something even more meaningful than a successful weekend or a memorable runway show—they’ll leave a legacy of confidence, belonging, and opportunity for the next generation of plus-size women.
