Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has issued Decree No. 498-26, creating the Citizen Oversight Commission for the DO Sostenible Trust to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public participation in the management of solid waste projects.
The commission will serve as an advisory and honorary body responsible for monitoring the physical and financial execution of programs financed by the trust, ensuring resources are used in accordance with the country’s solid waste management law, and issuing periodic and annual public oversight reports.
Coordinated by Alliet Ortega, the commission also includes Manuel García Arévalo, Giselle Pérez Reyes, Roberto Despradel Catrain, and Ruth de los Santos, who were selected based on their independence, integrity, and lack of conflicts of interest.
Under the decree, the commission may request information, receive recommendations from citizens and stakeholders, and propose measures to improve transparency, institutional integrity, and the management of the DO Sostenible Trust. Members must also sign an ethical commitment declaring their independence, confidentiality, and absence of conflicts of interest before assuming their roles.
The measure supports the implementation of the General Law on Integrated Solid Waste Management and reinforces the government’s efforts to promote transparent and sustainable waste management.
