Savannah Bananas Commemorate 9/11 With Solemn ‘Macarena’ Performance

SAVANNAH, GA—In remembrance of the lives lost on that fateful day, sources confirmed that the roster of the Savannah Bananas took to the field prior to Friday’s game to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a solemn performance of “Macarena.” With the Grayson Stadium lights dimmed and footage of a billowing American flag playing on the Jumbotron, the Bananas players reportedly cartwheeled or stilt-walked into formation on the first-base line before bowing their heads in a moment of silence for the victims of the 9/11 attacks, followed by a performance of an immaculately choreographed dance to the 1995 chart-topper. Sources confirmed that after the Bananas players pumped their hips and tore off their sleeves for their emotional “Macarena” rendition, they were joined on the field by their opposing squad, the Loco Beach Coconuts, with the teams stacking themselves into two human towers to represent the World Trade Center while a man wearing a leather cowboy hat and jorts placed a single rose on home plate and performed a somber backflip. The Banana Ball players then welcomed former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who tearfully led a prayer for the firefighters who perished in the attacks as he traversed the upturned hands of the stadium crowd in an inflatable Zorb ball.
