Glow & Grow: Black Beauty, Haircare, and Skincare Tips

No matter what the government says, prices are higher, pay is stagnant and our hair and beauty funds are limited.  More and more women are doing self-care at home and for good reason.  You still need to look amazing whether you work from home or not and still want to care for your hair and body no matter what kind of money you have for it.  Home hair just means doing more hair care needs at home like coloring, protective styles or even haircuts and trims.

DIY Foot Soak & Scrubs For Summer-Ready Feet!

The natural hair community is not new to but rather true to this idea.  We’ve had to adapt and do a lot of haircare needs for ourselves for at least a decade!  While you really can just get your natural hair done in a salon, the prices will give you a jump scare!  I still get my haircut by my favorite Denver salon, Sanctum Salon, but when it comes to everything else for my hair, I do it AT HOME!  Let’s delve into some ways you scarp those higher prices of natural haircare without your hair suffering.

Youtube, TikTok, Blogs for Home Hair Info

I would be remiss to not share the absolute best way to DIY for anything.  Social media is a curse and a blessing and while, vloggers may not be as big as they once were, finding videos of hairstyles and hair advice.  It just makes sense to use what is easily at your fingertips and honestly, you don’t have to pay for most if not all the information or instructions you need to master any style.

Whether you are looking for a solution to a dry scalp, or wanting to want to install your own box braids, simply do a google search and find all the information you desire.  We have become a huge sharing community and paying for information is not always required.

If you do want to get even ore in depth information, some vloggers and sites have pay features to delve even deeper or you can purchase books like mine, Natural Hair for Beginners: A Beginner’s Guide to Going Natural Successfully! which is highly rated and full of natural hair information.  (shameless plug because I poured my heart into that book and it is chocked full of tips and tricks!)

Home Hair Care Tricks & Tips Since things are Getting Expensive and the natural hair community is not new to this!Create your own home hair recipes

Back to the Blogs and Vlogs for this one because hair recipes are numerous and for some, fun.  OTC may be easier but it is pricier for things like detoxing, cleansing and conditioning, so finding hair recipes using foods, clays and oils are always an option.  Google will be your friend to find a hair recipe for every type of hair product you want to find so if you are about that mixtress life, then go crazy.

I have quite a few hair recipes right here on the blog so check here first and don’t hesitate to reach out to me personal at, sabrina@seriouslynatural.org for some home hair recipes too.

Barter with friends to do each other’s hair or swap haircare products

My daughter just recently saw Beyonce in ATL and had one of her good friends install Crochet Locs before the trip.  They made a night of it with food, Love Island, drinks and laughter. She fed and paid her and this was cheaper than a salon and actually more fun.  It saved her a lot of money she was able to use for her trip and she had a great time.

Swapping out hair products with family members and friends is another great way to get your hands on some items too.  Don’t sleep on the notion of sharing expensive hair tools too like hooded dryers, flat irons or hair steamers.  Going in on purchasing expensive hair tools and sharing with a a few family members or friends will also make it easier to still care for your  hair without breaking the bank or skimping on those items you feel you definitely need.

Home Hair Care Tricks & Tips Since things are Getting Expensive and the natural hair community is not new to this!Thrifting or Facebook Marketplace for hair tools

I’m not a thrifter but many women find treasures while thrifting or buying from Facebook Marketplace.  Gently used appliances can be helpful to keep prices down on the necessities you need like hooded hair dryers, flat irons or vanities.  Use caution when buying used items (always) but know paying for new styling tools can be horribly expensive and unnecessary.

I would also check to see if events in your local areas have meet ups where naturals swap out styling tools or even products they no longer need (or never used) and need a new home.  Just be careful with getting gently used items by inspecting thoroughly along with researching proper ways to clean them to ensure you have no issues with their usage.

Make sure to hit me up if you ever have questions at sabrina@seriouslynatural.org and remember, your hair does not have to suffer because you need to tweak that haircare budget!  Make sure to follow me on social media here:
