Global Black Voices: News from around the World

Santo Domingo West—This Saturday, President Luis Abinader and Minister of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Carlos Bonilla, delivered 140 new apartments under the Happy Family National Housing Plan in Ciudad Hato Nuevo, in the Santo Domingo Oeste municipality.

These apartments, built on a surface area of 12,567 square meters, are part of the Lolita II Residential Project, directly impacting 560 people with this first delivery by MIVED.

During the event, Minister Bonilla emphasized that this “delivery also represents how the State can work hand in hand with the private sector to make possible what previously seemed unattainable for many families. Through various forms of support and guidance, the Dominican State is making it possible for working families, single mothers, older adults, and young people in the process of independence to take this step with security and stability.”

For his part, Louis Bogaert, president of Haworth Dominican Construction Company, said, “We are grateful to the Abinader administration for its clear vision and firm commitment to national development, especially to improving the quality of life of Dominicans. Its leadership has been instrumental in making initiatives like this a reality for so many families. We are deeply proud to be part of the Happy Family National Housing Plan, a public-private partnership that brings the dream of owning a home closer to thousands of families.”

The Lolita II Residential Project has 340 apartments, distributed in three-bedroom, two-bathroom units, benefiting a total of 1,360 people.

These housing units include a kitchen, living room, dining room, balcony, laundry area, and access to a playground, as well as parks with seating, vehicle parking (one per unit), and spaces for motorcycles and visitors.

The area offers multiple accessibility facilities, such as public transportation (buses and motorcycles), schools, a convenience store, a gas station, a medical clinic, Francisco Peña Park, and the nearby Hato Nuevo Playground.

In financial terms, the total investment in the Lolita II Project amounts to RD$369,040,000, of which RD$247,800,000 corresponds to private investment and RD$121,240,000 to the subsidized contribution of the State.

The Happy Family National Housing Plan is part of President Abinader’s government’s commitment to reducing the housing shortage and improving the quality of life of thousands of families with decent housing.

President Abinader and Minister Bonilla were accompanied by the Governor of Santo Domingo, Lucrecia Santana; the Mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Francisco Peña; the Director of the National Housing Fund (FONVIVIENDA); Representative Leivy Bautista; the Deputy Director of the CAASD (National Development and Export Administration), Francisco Campusano; the General Manager of the National Bank for Development and Exports (BANDEX), Juan Alberto Mustafá; and the former Mayor of Santo Domingo Oeste, José Andújar.
