Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Jessie Lee
Hunter McCullough. God called upon her and she
peacefully departed from this world on June 7, 2025,
under the care of Georgia Hospice in Sylvania, Georgia.
She was born as the beloved seventh child of Lee Arthur
“Son” and Ida Ruth “Coot” Hunter on November 19,
1950, in Sylvania, Georgia. In the bible, the number
seven signifies spiritual wholeness and divine blessings,
truly Jessie Lee was indeed blessed. She always praised
her parents, Son and Coot, on their ability to provide for
their 13 children and instill strong family values, a strong
work ethic, and most importantly, a love of God. She
lived a life filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering
dedication to family, friends, and community. She never
met a stranger because of her ability to talk to any and
everyone. Her wisdom and ability to make you laugh
came naturally to her. At an early age, she learned to
cook and that became her most memorable quality. She
would whip up the most delicious and quick meals at
a moment’s notice, but famously was most known for
her potato salad. She attended Central High School.
She worked at BASF as machine operator, Walmart
distribution center, a short stint at Claxton Chicken and
she retired from Wall’s Diner as a cook. In her leisure,
she loved to travel and visit her kids; she’s traveled to
St. Thomas, V.I., Ghana, Africa, New Jersey, Texas, and
Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Arthur
and Ida Ruth; sisters, Sarah Ann (Joe Louis) Johnson,
Maylene Hunter, and Ida Ruth Hunter; and brothers,
Lee Arthur “Ike” (Gloria) Hunter, Jr., Shelley Edward
Hunter, David Lee (Irma) Hunter, and Charles Walter
Hunter.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her three
children, Antoinette Roberson of Jacksonville, FL,
Madarrell (Renee) McCullough of Sicklerville, NJ, and
Malindy Snead of Sylvania, GA. Ten grandchildren,
Madarrell McCullough II, Leaundra McCullough,
Elijah Grant, Aaron McCullough, Shermar Brown,
Hunter Brown, Jada Roberson, Kye Snead, Noble Snead,
and Loyal Snead; one great-grandchild, Ayden Miranda;
one adopted son, Larry White; sisters, Margaret Ann
Williams of St. Petersburg, FL, Margie Hunter and
Linda (Gary) Mills; one sister-niece, Eunice Lanier
of Sylvania, GA; brothers, Ivory Joe Hunter, Eugene
Hunter, Sr., of Sylvania, GA, and Curome (Deborah)
Hunter of Statesboro, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives, and friends.
