My Beginning
ANNIE OPHELIA KENT affectionally known as “Sue Babyâ€, made her grand entrance on April 9, 1941. Annie was one of eight children born to the late Pollie E. and John Robert Bryant. She was preceded in death by six of her siblings, Henry, Simuel, James, Pollie Ann, John Odell, and Emma. She was raised in Guyton, Georgia, where at an early age she joined Macedonia Baptist Church. Annie was I was educated in the Effingham County Public School System, where she met the love of her life.
My Beautiful Journey
Annie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Reverend Thomas J. Kent, Sr. To this union, four children were born. Her union to Reverend Kent led her to join New Hope A.M.E. Church, where she was a faithful member until her departure from this life. She was a regal first lady who spoke softly, yet her presence was known. She was a mother, a memommy, a sister, an aunt, a godmother, and a
kind soul to everyone that she encountered. Annie was a woman of valor with a servant’s heart. She often put the needs of others ahead of her own. She gave 32 years of service to the Effingham County Nursing Home where she rendered exceptional care to the residents. Annie was a woman of faith and she shared that faith with everyone she knew.
My Triumphant Ending On October 17, 2025, at 9:34 PM, Gabriel sounded the trumpet and God called Annie’s name. She departed from this world of sorrow and pain and entered into eternity. Her departure leaves to mourn: one sister, Nellie Mae (Frank) Polk; one sister-in-law, Patsy Kent; three daughters, Marcella Mohorn, Arnetha (Jeff) Paxton, and Etholia (Randy) Kent-Cooper; one son, Thomas J. Kent, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Phillip (Candice) Mohorn, Mario Mohorn, Justin Paxton, China Paxton, Denzel Paxton, Christopher Housey, Brittany Housey, and D’Angelo Housey; eight great-children, Evan Mohorn, Nathan Housey, Cambrie Housey, Sevyn Housey, Christian Easton, Kimora Leggette, Zahra Housey, and Zekai Housey; goddaughter, Kelwanda Hewlet; two devoted nieces, Cassandra (Cedric) Andrews and India (Earl) Quarterman; two devoted nephews, Melvin (Barbara) Kent and Anthony Irvin; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Memorial Medical Center ICU Nurse Mr. Jackson Whitaker, who cared for Annie and was there with her and the family until the end. Even in this time of sorrow, we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Sleep well, “Sue Baby,†take your rest.
