Mrs. Senovia Smart-EL Ross

June 26, 1949 — August 20, 2025

Savannah, GA

Mrs. Senovia Smart Ross, affectionately known as “Peaches,” passed away peacefully at home in Savannah, Georgia on August 20, 2025. She was surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren after a courageous battle with illness. Born on June 26, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Senovia brought warmth and joy to those around her, embodying a spirit that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Key takeaways
  • Community service: Long career with Westinghouse Appliances, Georgia Department of Transportation, and InterMarine.
  • Savannah role: Found fulfillment as a school bus driver, leaving a lasting impression on children and families.
  • Family matriarch: Devoted mother of five, proud grandmother to 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
  • Enduring resilience: Continued strength after her husband's 2000 passing, exemplifying love and dedication to family.
  • Legacy and privacy: Remembered for strength and warmth; family requested a private celebration and shared funeral home information.

Senovia dedicated much of her career to serving her community, working for Westinghouse Appliances, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and InterMarine. After relocating to Savannah in 1984, she found fulfillment in her role as a school bus driver for the Department of Transportation, leaving a lasting impression on the children and families she served.

In 2000, Senovia faced a profound loss with the passing of her husband, Herman L. Ross. Despite this heartache, she remained resolute and poured her love into her family, becoming a cherished matriarch. She often spoke about her proudest accomplishments, which were her 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. These relationships brought her immense joy and purpose, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Senovia is survived by her loving children: Patrick H. Smart, Sylvia Smart-EL Everett, Theodore Smart, Tisha Norman, and Dale Williams. She is also remembered by her devoted sister, Jean Smart-EL, who, along with her family, shared in the legacy of love and resilience that Senovia cultivated throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Galvinus Smart-EL Sr.; her mother, May D. Oaks; her brother, Galvinus Smart-EL Jr.; her sisters Ines Smart-EL, Carol Smart-EL, Ruth Smart-EL, Barbara Graves, and Delores Smart-EL; and her brother, Johnny Smart-EL. The love they shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who carry her memory forward.

Senovia’s life was a testament to strength, familial love, and unwavering dedication. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

The family has asked for privacy at this time as they chosen for a private family celebration.

Her favorite qoute” Every shut eye aint sleep and every goodbye aint gone”

~African proverb~ WHEN DEATH FINDS YOU,  MAY IT FIND YOU ALIVE
