Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update:

Key takeaways
  • Contact the PSI Assessment Center for concerns and screenings to connect families with appropriate early intervention resources.
  • PSI monitors six developmental areas: Speech, Social/Emotional, Motor, Communication, Adaptive Skills, and Cognition.
  • Early identification and support help children build a strong foundation for school readiness and future learning success.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s Department of Specialized Instruction offers Preschool Intervention (PSI) services to support young children who may be experiencing developmental delays. Early identification and support can make a meaningful difference in helping children succeed when they enter kindergarten and beyond.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, the district encourages families to contact PSI to learn more about Child Find Screening services. These screenings help identify areas where a child may benefit from additional support and connect families with appropriate resources.

Developmental Areas We Monitor

PSI focuses on six key areas that are important for school readiness:

  • Speech – A child’s ability to use the mouth, tongue, lips, and jaw to produce sounds and make speech understandable to others.
  • Social/Emotional – How a child interacts with others, plays, demonstrates responsibility, and shows sensitivity to peers.
  • Motor – Use of arms, legs, hands, and fingers for movement, coordination, and manipulation of objects.
  • Communication – Listening skills, attention, understanding, and how a child uses language to gather and share information.
  • Adaptive Skills – Daily living skills such as eating, dressing, personal hygiene, and participation in household tasks.
  • Cognition – A child’s thinking skills, including attention, memory, planning, decision-making, and problem-solving.

Take the First Step

If you are concerned about your child’s development or would like more information about Preschool Intervention services, contact the PSI Assessment Center:

Phone: 912-395-1294
Email: psiassessmentcenter@sccpss.com
Address: 400 East Broad Street, Savannah, GA 31401

Early support matters. PSI is here to partner with families and help every child build a strong foundation for learning.
