Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update:

Key takeaways
  • Community invited to review top-rated K-12 mathematics materials at three Community Review Events.
  • Events held at Port Wentworth Administrative Complex, materials displayed in the Cafetorium.
  • Reviews take about 30–45 minutes using a QR-guided process; iPads provided if needed.
  • Materials will be field tested in classrooms before final recommendation to the Board.
  • Final recommendation for the $10–12 million adoption will be voted on at the April board meeting.

SCCPSS is seeking input from the community for the adoption of K-12 mathematics textbooks.  As the District moves toward an approach to foundational skills instruction, it is imperative that classroom materials address all components of mathematics relevant to all grade levels.  The program selected must offer supports to meet the needs of all learners, including English language learners, students with disabilities and advanced learners.  In addition, all selections must be aligned with the goals and objectives of the State of Georgia standard course of study for K-12.

The District began the process with a Request for Proposal in early 2025.  The proposals were reviewed by a team of educators and professional learning specialists, the selections have been narrowed, and now the top-rated materials are available for public feedback.  Parents and interested community members of Chatham County are invited to review the selections under consideration at one of three Community Review Events at the Port Wentworth Administrative Complex, 507 Coastal Highway in Port Wentworth.  The materials are on display in the Cafetorium.

Mathematics Textbook Adoption Parent/Community Reviews will be held

  • Wednesday, January 28, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 31, 10” 10:00 – 1:00 p.m.
  • Thursday. February 19, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

The exercise will take about 30-45 minutes.  Participants will use their smartphone to scan a QR code that will guide them through the process. iPads will be available for anyone who does not have a smartphone.

The materials will be “field tested” in the classroom with teachers and students for every grade level under consideration to determine if the product meets the needs of teachers and students before the final recommendation is made to the Board of Public Education. The recommendation for the $10-12 million investment will be voted on at the April board meeting.
