Tomorrow’s Tech, Today: Innovation That Moves Us Forward

Key takeaways
  • AI Edge Eloquent: simple interface, single tap recording, history storage, and editable dictionary to add jargon for improved transcription accuracy.
  • AI cleans speech, removing filler words and offering a polished transcript with options for further manual edits.
  • Tools let you make text more formal, polished, longer, shorter, or convert it into concise key points.
  • Privacy first design runs machine learning locally and stores audio and text on device so data never leaves.

Google has rolled out AI Edge Eloquent, a free, unlimited dictation app that works fully offline. The app transcribes speech and uses AI to polish, edit, or shorten text, making it a useful assistant for meetings and everyday note-taking.

Powered by Google’s Gemma-based speech recognition, AI Edge Eloquent processes audio directly on the device without requiring an internet connection. The app is currently available only on iOS.

Google has released AI Edge Eloquent, a free, unlimited dictation app that works fully offline. Available on iOS, the app transcribes speech and uses AI to polish, edit, or shorten text directly on the device, without requiring an internet connection.

Functionality First

One look at the new Google app and you can see that the user interface is very straightforward. With one press of a button, you can record a new audio. The history tab allows you to store previous dictations. The application also has a built-in, editable dictionary where users can add words or jargon they frequently use to improve accuracy.

More than transcribing what you said verbatim, Google AI Edge Eloquent can also polish your text, removing filler words like “um” or “uh.” The app presents to you a cleaned-up version of your audio and then the option to edit it further. The tools function allows you to transform this text, making it more formal, more polished, longer, shorter, or even into key points. Even more, it provides usage statistics that count your words per minute and the total number of words in the text.

Privacy When it Matters Most

Privacy is a central feature of the app, which can be used fully offline and without cloud processing. There is a toggle button at the top right corner that enables a “fully offline” mode. The application stores all information, including speech and text, on your device.

The “machine learning processing runs entirely locally on your iOS device. Your audio, confidential conversations, and personal data never leave your device,” said Google.

Unlike many AI tools that rely on cloud processing, Google’s approach signals a shift toward on-device AI and greater user privacy.

AI Edge Eloquent joins apps like Superwhisper, Wispr Flow, and Willow in incorporating AI into diction services. Together, these apps are inviting you into a world where talking, rather than typing, will be the default.
