Staff reports that Gov. Kemp on Wednesday declared a State of Emergency for 91 Georgia counties in response to the ongoing wildfires in South Georgia. The governor also directed the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) and other relevant state agencies to mobilize all necessary resources to assist with active response efforts in the southern region of the state.

Kelby Hutchison reports, Ma Fest, paying homage to the “rich cultural traditions of the South” and named after Columbus native Gertrude “Ma” Rainey, known as the “Mother of the Blues,” will take place this Saturday from 4-9 p.m., according to a news release from the Columbus Consolidated Government. The news release says the event will be at the Historic Liberty Theatre & Cultural Arts Center and will be an outdoor celebration with food, live entertainment, vendors and “community pride.”
