The A Different World Challenge Top 10 finalists are here. Representing ten HBCUs, these student teams reimagined the show’s opening sequence through the friendships, traditions, and everyday experiences that make their campuses special. Each submission brings a different perspective to HBCU life. From Greek organizations and student leadership to athletics, academics, and creative expression, these entries celebrate the people who turn a college campus into a community.
Meet the Top 10 Schools and Teams
At Alabama A&M University, Crew75 x Student Publications builds its concept around a question: what happens when the campus bell rings after hours? The team representing Cheyney University highlights scholarship, leadership, and creativity through students from athletics, the Honors Academy, Glee Club, Royal Court, and student government. Dillard University’s A Dillard World welcomes viewers to the Avenue of the Oaks, spotlighting the students and organizations that give campus its personality. Livingstone College’s Team Stonemade brings together campus radio, multimedia students, athletics, science, and student leadership, culminating in a community gathering at The Bear.
At Norfolk State University, Norfolk State Campus Life celebrates Spartan pride through friendship, academics, style, and self-expression. North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University’s Aggie Universe follows freshman Tobenna and his mentor, Levi, introducing viewers to student creatives, athletes, Greek life, and the energy of Aggie Land. The team entered as Southern University and A&M College captures real moments from everyday campus life, exploring the connection between education and culture. Virginia State University’s submission takes a returning student’s perspective, celebrating campus energy and a new generation building memories and finding its place.
Winston-Salem State University’s Ramstv follows a student through performances, Greek strolls, athletics, campus royalty, and everyday encounters that showcase Ram pride. At Xavier University of Louisiana, A Different Xavier follows new students Indira, Shaun, and Marshawn on a tour with Mister and Miss Xavier before they venture off to discover what being a Xavierite means for themselves.
A new class. New friendships. A whole new world of possibilities. Step onto the campus of Hillman College as a new generation navigates college life and finds its place in A Different World. Premiering September 24, only on Netflix.
