Nia Sioux Opens Up About Alleged Racism She Faced On ‘Dance Moms’

Viewers watched Nia Sioux grow up right before their eyes as she danced across television screens for six years. During her time on the show, we saw her push through competitions, either for a solo or a higher part of Abby Lee Miller’s pyramid. In her book, she recalled a time where Abby allegedly repeatedly asked her, “Don’t you wish you had white girl hair?” during rehearsal. The dancer says she was taken aback by the question but responded “no”.

Nia goes on to state that Abby responded, “Oh really? Don’t you think it’d be much easier?” She says she told her no again, stating that it didn’t matter because she knew she didn’t want to be white. Nia talks about how braids were the best choice for her, but Abby didn’t allow her to have them. She adds that this conversation was one of the many she experienced.

Nia also hopped on TikTok to share some of her old dance costumes. She told her followers she believes they were controversial due to their racial undertones.“@niasiouxif you saw me in this, no you didn’t. ❌ Preorder Bottom of the Pyramid out TOMORROW at the link in bio!♬ CANCELLED! – Taylor Swift,” Nia captioned the post.

Abby Lee Miller Addresses Nia’s Racism Claims

After Nia dropped her memoir, Abby Lee spoke out. She addressed Nia’s claims in an interview with TMZ. Abby said she remembers things differently, adding that she believes she did right by all the girls. She went on to make it clear that none of the kids who were a part of ‘Dance Moms’ ever had contracts that required them to stay. When asked about how she plans to react Nia’s memoir, Abby said, “I don’t plan to sue or take legal action as of now… it’s Nia’s freedom of speech.”

Nia Sioux Talks About Finding Closure

Nia Sioux has been on a press tour for her new book. She recently sat down with Sherri Shepherd on her talk show. When asked about closure with Abby, Nia said she reached out after learning about her cancer diagnosis but never heard back.

“I would never wish her any ill will, especially since we left on bad terms. And she denied the request.” Nia claimed.
