Tomorrow’s Tech, Today: Innovation That Moves Us Forward

    Key takeaways
    • Samsung sent an unsubtle jab on X, leaning into social-media cheek after Apple's announcement.
    • Duolingo panicked over shared naming and SEO, spiraled on social and tagged new Apple CEO John Ternus.
    • The iPhone Duo quickly became the buzziest Apple device, drawing widespread social chatter and press attention.
    • Mashable ran live coverage from Apple Park, plus a reader Big Guessing Game to boost engagement.

The rumour mill can rest, as Apple’s foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has been unveiled. And competitors are already hitting social media with pure cheek.

Announced at Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event on Wednesday, the tech giant’s expensive new folding device was the talk of Cupertino, California, and beyond. Apple’s answer to the foldables of competitors like Samsung and Google, the iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch inner display that can fold in half.

But it wasn’t just smartphone makers freaking out about Apple’s new foldable. The team behind Duolingo, the language app, apparently realise it shares a name with the device, with the official account spiralling about SEO and @ing new Apple CEO John Ternus.

“It’s called the iPhone WHAT???” a Duolingo tweet reads.

The iPhone Duo is undeniably Apple’s buzziest device announced today, and Mashable’s Olivia Tauber has all the details.
