    Local Headlines & Updates:

June 11, 2025 – An open candidate forum for the Public Service Commission, hosted by Coastal Georgia for Democracy, will take place on Thursday, June 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St.

A special primary election will be held June 17, 2025 to decide the candidates for the Public Service Commissioners election in November. The PSC sets the rates Georgia Power is allowed to charge. This is the first time in many years Georgia residents have had the opportunity to elect new officials.

All PSC candidates have been invited to appear and will answer voters’ questions regarding anything under the purview of the Public Service Commission, which includes how much Georgia residents pay for their electricity, landline telephones, and natural gas.  They also oversee the 811 “Call Before You Dig” line and items related to line interruptions when they are improperly monitored by contractors and residents.

Confirmed participants include: Dr Alicia Johnson in District 2 and Daniel Blackman, Peter Hubbard, Robert Jones, and Keisha Sean Waites in District 3.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP here.
