HBCU News Spotlight: Ten award-winning films by students and recent graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will premiere on Jan. 27 as part of the inaugural HBCU Week NOW Student Film Festival. The winning shorts will stream on the HBCU Week NOW YouTube channel. They were selected from a pool of 36 submissions from across the nation. New Allegations Emerge After Reinstatement Just over a week after being fired, Kevin James has been reinstated as president of Morris Brown College. However, Channel 2 Action News reports it has obtained multiple internal documents containing allegations of sexual harassment, abuse, intimidation, and threats involving James. Starting later this month, the Willie Mays HBCU Baseball Open will showcase the top Black college programs in a tribute to the legendary Hall of Famer. HBCU News Spotlight: On Jan. 17 a crowd of more than 2,300 people watched as the Howard Bison defeated the Eagles 83-69.  The matchup featured two teams with almost entirely new rosters, with the Bison bringing back just three returners from last season, one fewer than NCCU’s four. Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update: Strategic Plan Progress Update During the Informal Meeting of the Board, an update on work to create the District’s Strategic Plan for the next five years was presented.  The planning is moving into the Public Engagement stage with a survey opening on January 20th that will gather feedback from both district staff and the public. Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update: Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools will be offering ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Classes for our parents and families this semester.  The classes are free of charge. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in the evening at Southwest Middle School located at 6030 Ogeechee Road in Savannah.  Classes begin on Tuesday, January 27th and conclude on Thursday, March 12th.
