NAVASSA, N.C. (WWAY)– On Friday afternoon, students from N-C State University gave residents in Navassa a look at what the town’s future could be, while honoring the past. Dozens gathered at the Navassa Community Center, where more than two dozen students unveiled concepts to enhance the Gullah Geechee Heritage Trail, and the future Moze Center Residents walked through the displays, asking questions and sharing feedback. Student Elle Newkirk, who is from Wilmington, says the goal is not just improvement, but preserving the community’s history and identity. “Our goal was to tell the story of Navassa and preserve it,” said Newkirk.…
