From Harm to Healing: Dismantling Barriers to Reproductive Justice for Black Women and Girls Confronts the Continuum of Reproductive Harm Endured by Black Women and Girls Nationwide
In response to the startling reality that Black women and girls face disproportionate rates of reproductive harm, BWW will convene medical experts, industry leaders, and allies to advocate for the resources and support that Black women deserve.
“The trajectory that the world is on right now is a direct threat to Black women’s health,” said Janette Robinson Flint, Executive Director of BWW. “We are in urgent need for a course correction and cannot ignore the systematic attacks that threaten the lifeline of entire communities.”
As a collective remembrance and a call to action, From Harm to Healing boldly acknowledges that Black women’s bodies have been brazenly used throughout history for extraction, experimentation, and forced reproduction. Abortion rights and reproductive rights are continuously under attack, threatening the lives of Black women across the nation.
In response to this reprehensible assault against human rights, BWW is even more committed to fighting for Black women to ensure that they have bodily autonomy and healthcare resources.
Offering continuing education credits to healthcare professionals upon approval, From Harm to Healing combats medical violence, highlights maternal disparities, and addresses systemic barriers to reproductive autonomy.
Entering its 27th year, the annual conference illuminates the path toward equity, healing, and justice with a men’s track and youth track to equip allies with advocacy tools. From Harm to Healing addresses the whole Black woman including mental health, physical health, spiritual health and reproductive health.
The conference features groundbreaking research, thought-provoking Power Talks, impactful poster presentations, and compelling discussions with authors in the health and wellness space and kicked off with a pre-conference fireside chat on Tuesday, July 14th featuring visionary artist and activist Michelle Browder, founder of Mothers of Gynecology.
The pre-conference also included trailblazing human rights activist, co-founder of SisterSong, and reproductive justice leader Loretta Ross for a powerful conversation rooted in this year’s From Harm to Healing theme. BWW holds space for truth-telling and collective healing, encouraging attendees to exchange ideas, support one another, and develop practical steps to resist the very systems that exploit our bodies and reclaim time for joy and healing.
“Black Women For Wellness is proud to spearhead this critical conversation that will save lives through education and action,” said Arnedra Jordan, BWW’s Director of Programs. “While these conversations are painful, we will not ignore the pervasive threat to Black women’s bodies, the dismissal of their pain, and the overwhelming data that proves the undeniable harm that they face in healthcare systems across the country.”
