Style Spotlight: Looks, Trends & Fashion Inspiration

    Key takeaways
    • My go-to: Leset carpenter pants, comfy and city-friendly, ideal for long desk hours; both pieces are 100% cotton.
    • Red is the color of the season, choose a matching monochrome or mix neutrals; pants come in over a dozen shades including Birch.
    • Unexpected favorite: pink balloon pants, surprisingly flattering and easy to dress up for brunch; pairs perfectly with Chanel pink slingbacks.
    • Shopbop in-house white balloon pants and taffeta options offer relaxed or statement looks that transition into fall; try black or bronze.
    • Explore comfy staples like the Bari trouser, Apiece Apart styles, cotton poplin wide legs, tangerine Leset trousers, and lightweight travel pants.

I would say the main difference between my wardrobe in Texas vs my New York City style is that I wear far fewer dresses here. Texas is just so damn hot that dresses were all I could tolerate in the spring, summer and early fall months! While it does get hot here, it is not even close to comparable to the Texas heat – I could get away with wearing jeans most days if I wanted to. While a sundress is certainly an easy choice this time of year, I’m having fun playing around with separates more and more here in the city. So far this season I’ve already picked up two statement skirts, two pairs of carpenter pants and two pairs of balloon pants… who is she?!

These Leset pants are the carpenter-style pants I was referring to, and they have quickly become my go-to for casual days. They’re so comfortable and ideal for long hours at my desk, but look put together and are certainly city-friendly for walking Reeses, running errands, and for appointments and casual get togethers with friends. I expect they’ll be a useful travel piece too! Red is definitely the color of the season, so I couldn’t resist this monochromatic moment with the matching tee. I also bought the pants in Birch, a good neutral that sits smack dab between khaki and army green. Both the tee and pants come in over a dozen shades, so choose whichever color suits you to create your own matchy look like this! Or mix and match with neutrals and brights to your heart’s content. Both pieces are 100% cotton – I’m wearing the small in both styles!

The other casual pant that I’m so excited about is this pair of pink balloon pants I picked up – yes, you heard that right. Until this spring, the color pink was not on my radar… at all. Pink has never been a color I’ve even remotely liked, but the Chanel pink denim slingbacks I bought in April triggered something deep within me. When I saw these pop up on my Shopbop new arrivals, I thought they might be a cute and easy pair for daily wear, for brunch with friends, etc! Turns out, they’re a perfect match to my slingbacks – and more comfortable and flattering than I ever imagined. While they’d certainly be easy to style with a tee and flat sandals for casual days, I actually loved dressing them up a bit like I did here for brunch a few weeks back!

The red and pink pants are definitely more of a statement look… but if you’re in the market for a pair of cute, comfortable and casual pants to wear on the reg this summer, don’t miss more styles that caught my eye below!

CASUAL PANTS THAT WILL KEEP YOU COOL THIS SUMMER

    • I’ve had this pair in black for a couple years now and always receive so many compliments whenever I wear them! The cut is super flattering and the style feels polished. A great basic!
    • I love the look of this Bari trouser – they look incredibly comfortable and so chic!
    • For supreme levels of comfort, don’t miss this pair from Apiece Apart!
    • These cotton poplin wide leg pants are soooo pretty! Love that shade of green too. This silhouette also comes in white!
    • Craving colorful stripes? Don’t miss this pair or this pair!
    • These white balloon pants from Shopbop’s in-house label look like a good fit and very relaxed.
    • These taffeta pants make more of a statement, but you could definitely wear them into fall – especially in black or bronze!
    • These tangerine trousers from Leset are such a bright, juicy choice!
    • I have these in a rust color and they are SO comfy and lightweight!
    • This is the newer version of a pair I have by the same brand and they’re the perfect casual travel paint.
