With Mother’s Day less than two weeks away, it’s crunch time for snagging the perfect gift! I was early to the game this year, having picked up this beautiful blouse for my mom when I was in Dallas at the beginning of the month. I wanted to treat her and give her the gift while I was home for Easter since I likely won’t see her again until June! The second I spotted this blouse, I thought to myself it was very her. She wears a lot of this soft shade of teal, and the addition of pinks, yellow and ochre make it an eye-catching and colorful piece she can wear spring, summer or fall! I thought it would work particularly well in chilly Carmel, as she and my stepdad spend most of their summer there. The silhouette is incredibly elegant and a great day-to-night piece she can style with skirts, nice jeans or an elevated pair of trousers.
If you’re still seeking out the perfect gift for the moms in your life, below are some chic, thoughtful present picks to consider!

FOR THE MOM WHO HOSTS GAME NIGHT
I’ve been seriously crushing on a new line of Mahjong racks, mats and tiles called Haus of Tiles! The product line was designed by a Texas-based interior designer, so the collection takes a more chic and neutral approach than some of the other neon and ultra-girly sets you see from brands like The Mahjong Line and Oh My Mahjong. Don’t get me wrong, I have sets I love from both of those brands! But I do love the idea of having a set that I wouldn’t necessarily have to put away at the end of game night. Think stylish scalloped marble and acrylic racks, functional mats in attractive neutral prints, and collections of tiles that tie in seamlessly with the accessories and your existing home decor. If your mom is a Mahjong fan who might appreciate a more sophisticated look, check out Haus of Tiles!
FOR THE MOM WITH AN ARTFUL EYE
I love giving art as a gift! Whether it’s a commission or a ready-made piece, a small painting is such a thoughtful present that can be used in any number of ways. For Christmas last year, I hired my friend Clare to paint a piece of my brother-in-law and my nephew when he was a baby, which he now has displayed in his office. If the piece is small enough, it could be placed in a frame and put on a desk, on a bookshelf or displayed elsewhere in the home. My aforementioned friend Clare has a number of pieces ready to go right here if you’re looking for some inspo! I’m partial to the New York street scenes and her paintings from the South of France!
FOR THE MOM WHO LOVES A TRINKET
I don’t know if it’s my more recent interest in pottery or what, but I’m really into ashtrays, jewelry boxes and trinket dishes lately… especially ones with artful touches like this one! I spotted a slightly damaged one that looked JUST like it at the John Derian sale, and I’ve been kicking myself for not snagging it. It’s such a beautiful piece that is both functional and a work of art for your closet, bookshelf or tabletop. If you love that look but don’t want to spend as much, Maison Flaneur has a bevy of interesting dishes, trays and other accents starting as low as $17 and going up to $600! This one is a fun one if your mom loves a dirty martini!
FOR THE MOM WHO ADORES ACCESSORIES
I have found my colorful Hermes scarves to be SO useful over the last few years! The twilly is the ideal size for styling in your hair, wearing on your neck or tied to a bag – an easy gift to give if you’re not too sure about clothing sizes! The larger silk scarves are also an amazing option for adding a punch of print and color to any look this season – tie it around the waist, clasp it over your shoulders… so useful! Most of my scarves are of the larger cashmere variety, which have been particularly useful in the colder months here up in New York. Separately, a colorful clutch or statement shoe would be sure to wow this Mother’s Day!
