Black Athletes in the Spotlight: HBCU Sports & Local Highlights

College, Career & Beyond | Midnight Golf Program continues to stand as a powerful model of mentorship, persistence, and long-term student success as it approaches its 25th year of service. Founded in Detroit, the organization has spent a quarter century guiding young people not only toward college access, but toward college completion and meaningful lives beyond graduation.

Each year, students from across Detroit seek out the program in search of structure, guidance, and adults who believe in their potential. Through consistent mentorship, life-skills development, and sustained support, College, Career & Beyond walks alongside students from high school graduation through college and into adulthood. While golf serves as an engaging entry point, the organization’s true impact lies in academic achievement, personal growth, and long-term stability.

In February of this year, students began gathering at the organization’s new headquarters, located at 7441 2nd Avenue in Detroit, a dedicated space for mentorship, development, and future planning. The environment reflects the program’s core philosophy: mentors who show up, staff who remain committed, and a community that does not disappear once college acceptance letters arrive. These pillars have helped shape one of the most successful youth development pipelines in the region.

The results from the 2024–25 program year underscore the organization’s effectiveness. More than 2,000 students applied, reflecting a growing demand for structured mentorship and college guidance. Of those selected, 238 seniors completed the rigorous 30-week Making Graduation Possible Access Program, with 97 percent enrolling in four-year colleges or universities. The program is supported by 70 mentors, 33 percent of whom are Midnight Golf Program alumni, reinforcing a powerful cycle of giving back. Nearly one-third of participants are first-generation college students, and today, almost 1,200 alumni are enrolled in colleges nationwide.

Demand continues to rise. Nearly 2,000 students applied for the 2025–26 year, and 275 students from 80 high schools across Southeast Michigan were selected for the landmark 25th cohort. In response, the organization has launched a Sustainability Campaign to ensure uninterrupted support for future generations.

Founder and President Renee Fluker emphasized the heart of the mission, stating, “Your year-end gift does more than fund a program. It sustains mentorship relationships, strengthens college persistence, and ensures young people are not left to navigate critical transitions alone.” She added, “It tells every student we serve: You matter. You belong here. And we will walk with you.”

As College, Career & Beyond | Midnight Golf Program celebrates 25 years of impact, its commitment to mentorship, education, and community remains as vital as ever. To learn more or to make a donation call (248) 792-9438 or visit https://collegecareerbeyond.org/give.
