    • At McNeese State in 2024, earned second-team All-Southland and Phil Steele honors; 33 tackles, eight pass breakups, two tackles for loss.
    • Jackson State asked Tiger Nation to lift his family in prayer, saying his memory will live within the program’s brotherhood.

Jackson State University is mourning the loss of former defensive back Levi Wyatt, who died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident, the school announced on Saturday.

Wyatt spent one season with the Tigers in 2025, contributing on defense and special teams as Jackson State won the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division championship.

He appeared in all 12 games and finished with 12 tackles, including nine solo stops, along with four pass breakups.

Before arriving at Jackson State, Wyatt built a strong résumé at McNeese State. In 2024, he earned second-team All-Southland Conference honors and a spot on the Phil Steele All-Southland Conference team after playing in 12 games and recording 33 tackles, 23 of them solo. He added two tackles for loss and eight pass breakups.

Wyatt also played in 10 games as a sophomore in 2023 after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, finishing that season with 13 tackles. He began his high school career at Vicksburg High School in Mississippi before finishing at Holmes County Central High School.

“The bond of this brotherhood does not end when the game clock expires,” Jackson State football said in a statement. “Today, we mourn the loss of our brother, Levi Wyatt. His memory will forever live within the halls of Jackson State football and in the hearts of everyone who shared this journey with him. We ask the Tiger Nation to join us in lifting his family and loved ones in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. Rest easy, Tiger.”
