A former two-sport star at Johnson High School was selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft last month by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ted Hurst played both basketball and football at Johnson – earning first-team All-Region (Class AAA, Region 3) in football, as well as being an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection at wide receiver as a Senior.

Hurst originally signed with Valdosta State out of Johnson High in 2022 where he played in all 11 games with six starts his freshman season. After excelling at Valdosta State for two years, he transferred to Georgia State where he played for the past two seasons.

Hurst earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors and was selected to play in the Senior Bowl as well as being the first-ever Georgia State Athlete to be named to The Athletic’s College Freaks List highlighting the strongest, fastest, and most athletic players in college football. During his Senior season, Hurst finished top 20 in the nation for total receiving yards (12th nationally, 3rd in Sun Belt Conference), receiving yards per game (16th nationally, 4th Sun Belt Conference) and receptions per game (15th nationally, 2nd in Sun Belt Conference).

Selected as the No. 84 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Hurst became the highest draft pick in Georgia State history.
