    Hoops to Heal Brings Basketball, Resources, Community Together at West Broad Street YMCA

    SAVANNAH — Hoops to Heal is a free community event that brings Savannah’s youth, families, and public safety professionals together through recreation, mentorship, and access to community resources. Hosted by the City of Savannah in partnership with the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE), Savannah Police Department (SPD), Savannah Fire Department (SFD), Savannah Impact Program (SIP), Savannah Recreation and Leisure Services, and the West Broad Street YMCA, the event is designed to strengthen community relationships and connect young people with positive opportunities and support services.

    Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with police officers, firefighters, mentors, and community leaders while learning about programs focused on youth development, workforce readiness, violence prevention, and overall well-being.

    Supporting the City of Savannah’s GPS Strategic Plan, Hoops to Heal encourages positive engagement, healthy lifestyles, and community connection while helping build pathways to success for Savannah’s youth.

    The free community event will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11:00am – 3:00pm at the West Broad Street YMCA, 1110 May Street, Savannah.

    • Outdoor recreational games

    Indoor Activities

    • Battle of the Badges basketball game
    • Basketball skills challenge
    • Community resource engagement room
    • DJ and music
    • Open gym play for youth during final hour (2:00 – 3:00)

    Food

    • Free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and water for attendees

    Battle of the Badges

    Members of the Savannah Police Department and Savannah Fire Department will face off on the basketball court in two 16-minute games beginning at noon. Each department will field a team of up to 10 players and a coach. The winning team will earn a championship trophy and bragging rights, while all participants will receive medals in recognition of the event’s spirit of teamwork and collaboration.

    A basketball skills challenge featuring young people from the community will take place at halftime. Open gym and half-court play for all ages will be available from 2:00pm – 3:00pm.

    Facility access and participation waivers will be provided by the West Broad Street YMCA.
