SAVANNAH – The inaugural Savannah Southern Half Marathon and 5K is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Nov. 15 beginning at 7 a.m. in Forsyth Park.

Traffic flow downtown will be impacted beginning as early as 4 a.m. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area and course if possible. Savannah Police Department will allow vehicle traffic through intersections during the race when the course is clear of runners.

Drivers are encouraged to be patient with officers directing traffic and follow all directions for the safety of runners and pedestrians. Vehicles will not be towed along the route.

The half marathon route will begin on the north end of Forsyth Park at 7 a.m. Drayton St. will close to vehicle traffic at 4 a.m. for the marathon infrastructure buildout. Drayton St. will reopen to traffic by 8 a.m. on Saturday. The Forsyth Farmers Market will not be impacted by the half marathon.

Street closures along the route will be implemented on a rolling basis and lifted as runners finish the course and roads are serviced. All streets are scheduled to be reopened no later than noon on Saturday. There will be no hard closures of main north/south roadways.

From Drayton, the route will turn west on Gaston and proceed north on Bull St., turn west on Bryan St. and then south on Montgomery crossing over to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd before heading out Gwinnet to West Savannah. The second portion of the route will largely be in the Ardsley Park neighborhood with the finish line in Daffin Park.

Over 4,000 runners have signed up for the half marathon with the majority of registrants coming from within 30 miles of Savannah.
