    • Community partners like Centaur Home Renovations are assisting with major home repairs for a storm-damaged home.
    • Family Promise of the Coastal Empire is housing the affected homeowner during the extensive repair process.
    • There is a rising demand for services among seniors due to storm damage and increasing utility costs.
    • The organization seeks monetary donations to provide essential resources for completing home repairs and support.

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — An Effingham County woman is finally getting major home repairs for free after months’ worth of storm damage.

The repairs are made possible by community partners like Centaur Home Renovations and Michael’s Roofing, who is replacing her roof at no cost. WSAV spoke with Family Promise of the Coastal Empire who is housing the homeowner until repairs are complete.

“Today, we’re in the process of working with a senior that was looking to age in place,” CEO Katrina Bostick said. “But, because of the numerous storms that we’ve had over the last year, it significantly impacted her home to the place that she’s no longer able to reside here. She’s been dealing with significant roof damage, water damage and a molding situation that have all come from that water.”

It is a part of a growing trend that Bostick said she is seeing more often.

“We’re seeing an uptick of seniors that are reaching out for services and are being connected to us for services,” she said. “It’s via the storm and the scorching temperatures, which is causing utility bills to increase. So, they’re reaching out to us from a financial perspective to see if we are able to assist in that in that way.”

It is not just a repair. It’s a response to a growing need, and a shot at safe living again. Family Promise of the Coastal Empire and its partners are working to bridge the gap.

“Unfortunately, it’s a daily occurrence,” Bostick said. “We come across seniors and those that are differently abled that are unfortunately living in unsafe and uninhabitable spaces in our community. A lot of it is they they’re just not sure where they can go to for services and resources.”

The organization is looking for monetary donations to help with providing resources to finish up the home.
