Game On: Latest in Gaming News, Reviews & Industry Buzz

Newsbrief: The Game Developers Conference has tapped former White House senior advisor for digital media and longtime game industry veteran Mark DeLoura to fill a newly created role within the conference’s leadership team: executive director of innovation and growth.

In a press release, GDC leadership says the new hire and role align with the conference’s shift to a “Festival of Gaming”, all of which serve to “represent the full game-making ecosystem and better meet the needs of the contemporary games industry.”

A statement from Nina Brown, VP of Gaming at GDC parent company Informa Festivals, says DeLoura is “among the rare few that have the holistic perspective of the rapidly evolving industry from the inside out.” DeLoura has served in roles across the industry, championing developer communities and technology at companies like Nintendo, Sony, Ubisoft, THQ, and Google. His new role sees him tasked with ensuring GDC’s strategy, programing, and overall presence is “future facing and deeply connected to the industry it serves.”

DeLoura, who himself is a longtime member of the GDC Advisory Board and once held the title of editor-in-chief at GameDeveloper.com-namesake Game Developer Magazine, affirmed that goal in a press release, saying “GDC has always been a home for people who care deeply about making games and now it’s transforming into something even more ambitious! It’s incredibly exciting to step into this role to ensure that GDC remains connected to the community while expanding to serve everyone who is shaping the future of games.”
